Buc Days Interview

Buccaneer Days, one of the most iconic events that takes place here in Corpus Christi once a year. Starting with a Rodeo of four days and ending with the Illuminated  Parade. With an event so big and annual such as this, how could so few people know the significance behind it?
My dad talks about the parade every year, my mother just less then him. However the things he talks most notably about is the change in cost. He is always talking about how expensive Buc Days Carnival is. They did  not have to pay to get in when he was young, the carnival was free to get into. My momma comments that yeah, you went in ate and rode what you wanted and then left.
I should probably back up some, Buc Days is big with my family. We all love it. It holds so many memories for us, I can't even remember not going when I was little. As a family our favorite part is the Night Parade, we've gone more times than I'd care to count. Before the start of the Parade changed, my family always sat on the other side of the fence right by the stadium. That was our spot. Dad would bring his mini barbecue pit, ice chest, and other food necessities. People around us always took notice. Dad even says he remember Katia from Channel 3  news saying, "oh oh look at them, look at the food, oh it smells so good,".  Its only stooped recently, I'm very sad to say we no longer continue this tradition now that we have three babies running around my house.
My mother always talks about the carnival food, she could care less about the games and rides. Get her a funnel cake and candy apple and leave her by the music. She always takes me to the carnival, didn't matter if I was to small for some rides, she stuck with me and made sure I had fun. Sometimes we didn't even get on rides, we just ate food and watched my dad have all the fun, at least until I was old enough to go about the carnival without their supervision.  But by then my sisters were born and I had to help with them. Oh how the girls loved the carnival. They've taken a picture with a little monkey each ear they've gone. It was sad to say we didn't attend any of it this year.
For me, this is my life, I've always attended the carnival. My favorite memories though involve the parades, I've been in both when I was younger. There's this certain thrill you get when people cheer you on, when they're watching you with theses smiles. You're creating memories not only for yourself, but for other children and there families. That's not anything that you can forget, it makes Buc Days all the more apart of you.
So yeah, I never got down to the actual significance to this big annual event. However I shared my family memories with you showing that, hey you might not know the real significance, but here is a family perspective of it, I hope you can see the added on significance. Buc Days is a mystery to some people of Corpus Christi, Texas. It's also a mystery for the other cities. Go explore it. Make it your on and find your own significance. Its a fun, family friendly, event.
